Default Another AC question

Ac hasn't been working well, so I watched, and the clutch is constantly engaged when the air is turned on. Got a set of gauges and the pressure on the low side is 75. The lines don't seem to be getting cold either.

Any ideas?

75 seems high depending on how hot it is outside.

There is another thread with a member having the same issue, with the same pressure......

Check the temp door in the cab. The little motor that runs it is toward the middle of the truck, on the bottom of the heater box. Little hard to get to... but, with the key on, run your temp dial from one extreme to the other, and see if you can tell if the little motor is doing anything.

I saw the other thread, but his clutch is cycling, mine doesn't seem to be. Also the lines are not getting cold, so I don't think it is the blower door being broken unfortunatly.

May want to take it to a shop, and have it checked out then.....

What does the pressure do if you shut off the engine?

Ok, it looks like it was just overcharged. Not sure how that had happened, but we took out enough refrigerant to get it down to 40-45 pounds, and it started working great. My guess is the previous owner decided to charge it up himself. Hopefully nothing was damaged from being overcharged. Thanks for all the help.

Just as much damage has been done to A/C systems thru overcharging as insufficient refrigerant charge. Overcharged..Liquid refrigerant back into the suction side of the compressor and liquid is non compressable, self destruct fail. Low charge... Oil does not return to the compressor and it siezes. Always follow manfacturers charging guidelines. Dodge FSM has a great deal of information on A/C service.
