Default SPECTRE Filter vs. K&N

I'm going to replace the crap paper filter with a K&N but now I'm seeing SPECTRE filters being advertised. They're about half the price of K&N Filters, so I'm wondering are they worth anything? Has anyone here used them? Just wondering because I'd like to not waste money and just buy the tried and true K&N if they're not up to everyones standards.

Thanks!

I would run a paper filter over everything. They provide actually filtration of dirt and debris. K&N, Spectre, AEM, they're all crap. Paper air filter with a prefilter FTW. Plus, the price is right.

Just my .2

I've actually heard this before. Eh, might as well stick with what works, right?

The only difference between K&N and Spectre is the price. Same s*** different names. They are right about the paper filters, if not maintained properly clothe filters can kill your engine.

Paper filters very well but does not flow well. It also tends to "clog up" in adverse conditions rather quickly.

Oiled cloth filters have very good cfm rates but will NOT filter well if left dry.

I've run K&N filters for over 20 years and have never had an oil related problem, although I have had issues with my oil being a bit dirtier than I would like to see when I have spent long periods out at my farm property. 75% dirt roads and dust bowl from hell at the farm in the summer!
I installed a pre-filter on my K&N and it seems to be working well as the oil is dramatically cleaner. The pre-filter only reduces airflow by 2% according to their documentation.

I believe I am going to try either an Amsoil or AEM filter before long though. A LOT of newer technology is being used in premium dry filters recently.
Supposed to give you the best of both a paper filter and an oiled cloth filter.

Don't look for any "seat of the pants" gains from installing a premium filter or even a CAI. A CAI is a type of "helper" mod that makes some other mods perform more efficiently. By itself it will yield only minimal single digit HP and TQ gains actually reaching the real wheels.

Have you tested that insys USA cai that is on eBay for $85? Looks to be the same thing at a fraction of the k&n price

I would get the Spectre over the K&N my brother has ran both and the spectre does better and leaves a cleaner oil, both K&N and Spectre have wonderful customer service, my brother had his spectre filter start to come apart and sent it back and they called him up and made sure they solved his problem and upgraded him from the 3in to a 4in tall filter since he had a problem with the last one. Now thats customer service you dont see much anymore.

When i get a new filter for my CAI I will be getting a spectre

Thanks guys! I'll give the Spectre filter a try. I'm not looking for HP gains, just smoother running.

Default Holy Resurrection Batman!

Sorry to bring a very old thread from the dead but a week ago I ordered a Spectre CAI for my 2006 charger RT after reading this data

http://www.hotrod.com/articles/2006-dodge-charger-cold-air-intake-kits-install-and-test/

my package was delayed (still not here) and the woman from the parts supplier said there had been a delay from K&N in dispatching.

when I questioned her she said Spectre was "part of K&N"

can anyone shed light on this as I also read that a few years ago they had a law suit filed against them by K&N which they lost...

What parts supplier did you order from? If it was a wholesaler like autoanything, or carid, etc, the "woman" could have misspoken. Those "sales" people have no idea about the parts they are selling.
