Default Stereo Install Help.

All right, I went to best buy to get a wiring harness for my 1996 dodge ram 1500. I bought the one they gave me, got home, and now I'm stuck. This is my first time doing a stereo install, so maybe I'm just being dumb lol.

This is the harness I bought from best buy.

This is the piece that plugs into the head unit itself.

and this is what I started with.

Did I get the wrong harness, or am I just dumb?

P.S. Sorry about the huge pics.

What you need is female with the same pinout. In cases like this, just return it (providing it's not all hosed up) and get the right one or, simply hardwire the wires coming out from the dash into the radio harness by splicing them together with the appropriate sized splice connectors.

The AWG on radios is around 14 AWG if memory serves me correct and, the color code on that would be blue. Cut those OEM connectors off, and splice the new one in-line. NOTE: before doing so, do take note of the color scheme and schematic on BOTH the Dodge truck and Stereo to ensure wiring compatibility.

Last thing you want to have is a flip on the ground scheme.

If all you are doing is adding in a new deck, then go with what has been said. If you are adding in new speakers as well, you would be better served to run all new wires to the deck for all the speakers. It can remove a lot of headache and it will make your system sound a little better.

Now, when you go to BB, ask if they have a DIRECT plug and play. Not one that you have to cut and solder to make work. They will be a little more, but they are well worth it if you are unsure of your soldering abilities and or not sure where what wires need to go where.

Oh, what all are you installing?
