Default '97 ram 4x4 question

hello;
when i bought this truck, a '97 1/2t 4x4 with 360 and auto; the trans converter was out...it would start but when shifted into gear it died unless the 4wd was engaged...
now, then the 4wd was working when engaged: the dash light came on, when turning left or right the front had 'wheel bind', etc.
i had AAMCO rebuild the trans and install a new converter...now the 4wd does not engage: no light on dash, no engagement of actuator.
i checked power at actuator, its there. i changed actuator with a new one, still nothing.
i read somewhere on a post that there's a switch either on the trans or transfer case that is also involved in the engagement...can someone tell me if this is true, what its called and where its located...i'm wondering if either the power cord to it was not re-installed or if that switch, if there is one, is bad.
i hate to buy a posi-lock if all thats needed is a switch or sensor to make it all work.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.

The front axle on your truck is vacuum actuated. The switch on the front axle CAD unit simply turns on the light in the dash. That's it. On the other side of that switch, is a vacuum servo. Should have two lines hooked to it, they meet steel lines up on the frame. Follow the steel lines back to the trans crossmember, and there it should go back to rubber lines, up to a switch on the transfer case. Probably the trans shop didn't hook the vacuum lines back up to the switch on the t-case.
