Question Exhaust tip extension possible?

On my truck, the previous owner had an exhaust system installed (single pipe out back behind the rear passenger tire) and it has caused an issue.

The tail pipe doesn't extend out at all past the rear panel, so the end of the tip is right under the panel itself. Over time it has caused that small rear panel behind the rear tire to develop surface rust and a smokey film that won't come off, and it needs to be fixed before it gets worse.

I'm sure I'm not the only one with that issue.

Will a simple longer exhaust tip attached by a clamp solve the problem once I have that panel refinished and re-painted? I assume it's a normal type of tip that you can buy in a few different variations at your local auto parts store.

I'll try to post pics later tonight when I get home if that helps.

If all you are concerned about is getting the actual pipe exit further out from the body, yep, will work just fine.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. I figure one clamp should do the trick to keep it on.

+1 I had the same issue. I cut the pipes that exit on both sides behind the tires and now regret it. I did not take into account the damage it would cause to the paint. So I'm on the hunt for some tips that don't look too gaudy and tackey.

go with a nice magnaflow clamp on tip. 4 in diameter and 10" long tips are the best looking in my opinion

Magnaflow makes a crap load of tips, most are stainless not overly tacky.

I got a 12" long rolled tip that fits a 3" pipe with 4" exit and it's held up extremely well. No rust or discoloration. I highly recommend welded on as well. The clamp on ones can sag or get beaned by a rock and get ****-eyed.

Here's it installed.

The way my exhaust was installed I would have to heat and bend the pipes to get that aimed back look. Otherwise they would look strange poking straight out. Maybe some rectangle tips? Not sure what they would sound like but would look good I'm sure.

Those Canadian winters raise hell on the quarter panels! If I were you I would go with a similair setup as squirrels, You may have to get a longer tip and cut the pipe back to keep it from sticking out too far. Then have the tip welded, like squirrel said, one good bump or curb could make it look like a paraplegic in a strip club.

Just use a tip that bolts on. Easy, cheap. And get rid of that Bro **** avatar.
