Default Weird idle..

Hey guys havent been on here in a long time, anyways I get a hiccup in my idle every so often. Its not consistant just every so often. Could it be my plenum gasket? I'm lost because its not occuring all the time. I tried to search it and couldnt come up with anything.
Thanks guys

Mike

going to need more description than 'hicccup'. LOL

plenums usually leak consistently, running a little lean, burning oil, low on power.
its usually not an idle problem.

does it do it when cold, or warm or both?
does it do it only when AC is on?
does it act like its going to stall?
does it make a sucking sound when it recovers as IAC moves?
etc.

if i had to guess at one thing - i'd say TPS sending a false signal and IAC trying to recover. mines done that a couple of times and threw a P0123 code.

It doesn't matter if its warm or cold. Its like its miss firing but you give it gas to bring the idle up and its fine for a few. Its not consistant, for instance itll do it at one redlight and a mile down the road it won't some days it doesn't do it others it will. It does it with and with out A/C on, and it kind of wants to stall but doesnt just dips down and runs rough til I give her some gas. And I havent heard a sucking sound yet. I will listen for it when it happens again

same problem I'm having with my truck right now, Pull a spark plug and let me know what it looks like. It sounds like mine is a little worse than yours, mine only does it when i have a load on the motor.

But it idles down to like 400 and almost wants to die

I'll have to check them when I get off work tmw, and from what I hear IAC's are expensive to replace. Any more ideas?

just clean the sensor you dont really have a need to completely replace it. just clean the IAC and ur throttle body and see what happens could just have some carbon build up on it or something.

I just replaced my IAC becuase mine is doing this exact thing. I called the local dodge dealer and they said they've never heard of this problem or had one come in for this problem. The IAC didn't help anything.

I'd caution against chasing ghosts.

If it's very intermittent, don't sweat it. Do a tune up and be done with it. Old motors won't run like new. Variations in cylinder pressure, dirty fuel injectors, old plugs, carbon build up, etc., etc., can drive you nuts trying to find a little "bump" in the run.
