Default "Higher Mileage" Oil?

My 2001 Ram has 107k on it, and it's due for an oil change this weekend. I bought it with 76,000 on it, and have never had a problem with the oil, it always comes out fairly clean after 3000 miles. I'm religious with changing every 3k or 3 months. I've been using Quaker State "high endurance" (comes in a green bottle) 10w30 since I bought it.

Does anyone think it's worthwhile to consider switching to Quaker State high mileage oil, or should I just stay with what I've been using, since I haven't had any problems, and it runs nice and smooth currently? It's only a 3 dollaer price difference, so cost isn't a concern, just what's best for the motor, as I hope to keep it until the wheels fall off. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I would give it a try. I've been using it in mine for a while. It has additives that help higher mileage engines.

Ok, well I think I am going to give it a shot. I suppose it couldn't hurt.

All of the auto parts stores and engine builders I know refer to Quaker State oil as "bearing buster", stating that nothing will destroy an engine faster than QS oil.

Slick 50 has been shown to be nothing more than snake oil and also does well in destroying an engine.

Your mileage may vary.

I've also been told to stay away from QS and Pennzoil. A friend of mine swore by Pennzoil and when he pulled the heads off of his truck, there was so much sludge he didn't know what to do.

Mobile 1, Valvoline and Castrol are the oils I mainly use. Most of the high mileage stuff is usually a synthetic blend with special additives.

Agreed on the Penzoil sludge. I've seen a Chevy S10 V6 that was caked in that crap and busted a rod because of it.

I have 167,000 miles on my ram and it's still running strong. The previous owner had used Mobile 1 synthetic ever since 100,000 miles and it has been running good so I just continued on with that. Mobile 1 also makes the synthetic high mileage oil which I've heard is very good as well. I use Mobile 1 synthetic in my 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution as well and it works great in there. Definitely my favorite
