Default pinion pcm flash?

i talked to the trans shop that did my rebuild and they said there is nothing you can do to fix my O/D not kicking in until 57mph, so i called the dealer and they said they can flash it for $95 something about the pinion for the larger tires, anyone know anything about this? my superchips updated the speedo but this i think updates the PCM and are there other places that can do it cheaper?

honestly i think its a croc of sh*t bro. pinion is just a shaft that sits in the gears, what would it matter or have anything to do with ur O/D. just my 2 cents.

OD not kicking in until 57 is wierd, but they are correct that they can't do anything about it. That is a computer issue... and given that we both run superchips, on the same year truck, im not sure why yours is so delayed. Once mine hits like 52ish (where it should be if you have ever had your pcm reflashed as per a TSB). Superchips also uses that revised OD shift in their tuning for 87, towing, etc... I have found that if you use the 91 tune, it will revert to the older OD shift schedule where it kicks in around 45. Honestly, given that you run 33's, it is probably to your benefit that it waits until 57 anyway.

Also, if you can use a GPS to verify your actual speed... it would be suggested. The speedo just might be off. I think mine is slightly off and used the combination of the GPS, and trying different tire sizes to put my speedo where my actual speed is at.

It is a computer issue.

Sell the Superchips and get an SCT, that can adjust the OD engagement. I had hemifever up mine from 45 to 50.

they are a 305/70R16, i didnt have any problems with the 285/75R16 but they were also pretty low on tread, i run the 91 octane setting on superchips, i dont really have the money for SCT at the moment, i was just wondering if this dealer thing is BS or if that will acually help

and i set the speedo with superchips and used a GPS to verify, it may acually be 55-56, but still way to high for me, speed limits are 45-50 and running in 3rd gear really blows for mpgs

When was the last time you updated your tuner? imho 55-56 is still fine for 33's. When my OD used to be lower (45ish) I found it hard to hold it in OD with the roads around here and ended up using more gas trying to keep it in OD at that speed. While the speed limit may be 45 around here... you find cars doing 45 and then change there speed for turns / cars in front of them / etc... that slightest reduction in speed at 45 means your poping in and out of OD. Ended up using a lot more gas at the lower OD Shift. With the 52mph, when it goes in gear, I have the power to hold it there too with 32's.

EDIT. also, the dealer thing won't work for you if you plan to use the SC. Again, re-check your tire size my measuring with a tape to put you in the ball park, and fine tune with a GPS. If it works with the older tires size but not the newer, that still leads me to believe it is a tire size setting issue. For ****s and giggles, return to stock and report back how OD acts. As far as what Aim said, he is right as well. With the SCT you can fine tune that setting where you want it. I am actually considering selling the SC for SCT... but more so because I got the "cam" bug... we'll see if I go through with it or not lol.

tuner from Hemifever is 275, keep the 95 bucks in your pocket, and save some more for the better tune from him.

ok, i got the scoop here.

the dealer is talking about setting the "pinion factor", which is actually the tire size diameter in the computer. the superchips tire size setting has altered this parameter, which has caused your change in OD shift. try setting your tire size back down to a smaller size. this will throw off your speedo some, but probably move your shift point.

superchips moved my OD shift from 45 to 55, which i like, when i changed my tire size from something like 29-30'ish to 31-32'ish.
