thinking about removing my cat ?
i just got a 99 2500 with the v10 2wd and it has st8 pipes with no cats and glass packs and it is horrbile on gas. Not just cause the v10 but its got a lot of low end power but when im on getting on the highway and i mash on it. The rpms go up but the truck doenst go anywhere till it builds up the backpressure it needs and you can hear it it sounds horrible so i would say dont do it. Unless you replace it with a highflow cat i plan on gettin one
Yes, but your opinion is jaded.
I had a pipe rust off on mine the other day and it prompted me to go ahead and do something about it. Went to the clover store and bought about $25.00 in fittings and pipe and constructed my own Y pipe. Yes, the truck got louder. A lot louder, but there isn't a drone to it when you're running down the road. You'll find that you can still talk to someone in the cab while accelerating if you leave the FM in place.
I think it's worth it. Now, for about the first week and a half that I had mine off, my MPGs dropped, but it was mainly because I love hearing baffled exhaust tones and the lack of the cat only emphasizes that. Just last week, I took the ram on a little 9 hour road trip of sorts with a load in the bed of truck on the way down. With the 1200 in product, I averaged 13.4 MPG highway with little city elements. After unloaded, I came home and averaged 15.9 all highway. Of course, I was doing between 65 and 75 so that hurt me a little bit. (Still funny that I get better mileage now than our 2008 5.3 Avie does.)
In short, change it. You'll like it. Just note that you wont pass a sniffer test and that could cause problems at inspection time. Not a big deal mind you, but it can cause problems.

As Laramie said it will cause you to not pass inspection. Here in Kansas we don't have inspection so we're good. One other thing is that if you do go ahead and do it then you'll want to do the DIY fix for the O2 Sensor. If you do not then more than likely your CEL will turn on because it wont be reading a cat or anything
