Default Hughes plate

Did your plenum plate come this dicked up?

This is the gasket sealing side. Check out the scratches on the edges...

Here is the underside once it is bolted on. Comes pre-nicked up and with gunk? Sweet!

Lol seriously though I called hughes and worked a deal. They got a few more $ out of me but I am getting a new plate overnighted so I can do my plenum this weekend like I had planned. I had a friend check out the plate and was concerned about it sealing correctly which is why I called them. I was just surprised when I opened the package considering the cuts were perfect, the holes were perfect... but why skimp on quality like this? In hughes defense, they are sending me the new plate with no hassel. Customer service gets an A so far, ill judge quality once I see the new plate in the mail on time. Was just curious how your plates came in the mail.

Mine had no scratches, scuffs, or smudges at all. Brushed aluminum all the way throughout.

mine was clean. it had some minor scuffing, but no bad scratches.

(never mind, i didn't read your second paragraph)
i'd email that picture to Hughes, and ask them why they sent one that was so screwed up?

if the scratches are very deep, its going to require some gasket sealer to prevent leaks. and bear in mind that you only torque those plate bolts to a very light torque, so you can't seal it by brute force.

I could swear I've seen those exact same scratches in photos elsewhere in this forum. Maybe you got the last guy's reject?

No issues with my plate when I received it to do my plenum earlier this month--just a few extremely light scratches on it. I went over the sealing surfaces on the plenum and the Hughes plate lightly with a Scotch-Brite pad to clean things up.

Now that someone else mentioned it, I sure hope torquing to such a light number (7 ft-lbs = 84 in-lbs) with no sealer and only the gasket will actually seal it for the long haul. But I guess tighter is not always better, sort of like the 12 ft-lb spec. for the stock intake bolts.

Good luck with the install--have you considered changing your water pump while you're in there? It's like another 6-7 bolts after all the other stuff is removed.

The first plate I got from Hughes was warped to the point that I didnt want to use it. They replaced it free of charge, but it sure slowed my progress down. I have a thread with pics somewhere on this site.

If you could find that thread, I would be more than curious to find out. Wouldn't that be something...

Also, thanks everyone for the info. We'll see how the replacement looks when it arrives friday evening.
