Transmission Advice.... V10 2500 4x4
I bought this Truck a month ago with 167,000 plus miles, the Truck runs like a champ but! I have a single clunk noise in the tranny when I put it in reverse me thinking that it was a U Join from the driveline it wasn't but I had the tranny served with filter, gaskets and flush but the mechanic took the tranny oil pan out and found 4 peices of metals stocked on the magnet one of the pieces according to my Son who went to school to become a mechanic told me that one of the pieces is one of a metal rings to hold in place one of the gears the others 3 pieces he can't tell what it was but no metals that came from the gears just a little tiny small powdery normal wear, so the mechanic and I agreed that the piece of that metal ring belongs to the gear that hold in place the reverse because it is the only gear when I put it on the reverse make a single clunk noise but it does run and the rest of the 4 speeds goes smother with no slipping, I did added in to the transmission a Dura Lube tranny treatment in which I been using Dura Lube on my vehicles for over 30 years and believe me this stuff works because it makes the internal of your engine and tranny parts free of friction because friction causes wear and tear of the engine and tranny so I added a Dura Lube treatment in the tranny, now my question here ? Do I have to be concerned that the tranny may soon give up on me or I can still use it the way it is for quite some time until I decide to rebuild it when I get the money to pay someone to rebuild the tranny for me, any information from you guys that owns a Dodge for years can give me a good advice. I am also a owner of a 1990 Dodge Ramcharger 4x4 5.2L V8 Base 318 ci 4 speed manual and I have that one since 1997 but it has a manual transmission and those are undestructible as long you maintained it and the 318 V8 those engines never dies but in the contrary the 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 V10 8.0 liter is a automatic... The flat piece is likely part of the snap-ring that holds the O/D section together. There is a HEFTY spring that feller holds in place, so, they are notorious for spitting them out. (all of the 4XR? transmissions have that problem.)
That said, if it still works the way it is supposed to, run it till it doesn't.

Thanks guys!
So what is this Sure Cure Kit from Sonnax... I am on the website, is it an entire rebuild kit?
You happen to know the part number or kit that I want to look into?
It's supposed to go to the shop this coming wednesday.
The friction modifier made a difference, but I am not sure it was enough quantity wise - somehow 6 ounces to 17 quarts seems low to me...
Thanks for the advice!

A lot of the Sonnax Sure Cure Kits on the net are Sonnax Zip Kits. Sonnax has replaced the Sure Cure Kit with the ZIP Kit. Finding a Sure Cure Kit will be harder as time goes by. These kits are a semi rebuild of the VB. My thoughts, if there are other problems (during inspection) with the VB not covered by the kit, post pictures for advice.
