If you've got deer or Angus anywhere around, try this one.
I really do like the Back Rack. It goes in easy enough, but does require drilling on our trucks. Two holes, one in each stake pocket. Since you're going to add a toolbox, be sure to get the holes low enough that the studs won't interfere with the top of the toolbox rail. There's nothing in the written destructions to tell you about that.
The best price I found on Delta boxes was at Pickup Specialties. They all ship out of the factory anyway, so shop on price if you go Delta. And don't be surprised if Con-Way freight damages the thing. Mine came damaged but not so badly that I wanted to fool around with sending it back -- and having the replacement shipped via Con-Way.
Pickup Specialties was good to me, very helpful.
Personally, I like the mid-lid gullwing toolboxes so I don't have to unload the bed to get the thing open. It's enough work loading and unloading feed sacks, hay bales, or firewood once and I don't want to do it again because I got the wrong toolbox.
If you're going to get into water or sloppy mud, don't mess with that open element POS. I lost an AMC 360 engine on my '78 Cherokee to water getting past a round, open element (Edelbrock, not that it matters any) air cleaner. Try an isolated CAI of some sort instead.
I'm curious to know if those do much of anything for you.
There's a factory vinyl floor that's awesome. Mine came with it.
I prefer Led Zeppelin or Jimmy Buffett, but live like ya wanna live. If you want a recon factory unit, try here.
I like these wheels on green second gen's. I wasn't going to replace my factory wheels, but the wife insists that she wants something a bit slicker so that's what I'm going to buy.
It won't help the looks any, but get a tuner to plug into the critter. It's the cheapest horsepower you're going to get, and always welcome when the bed's loaded up.
It's cool to know someone else here is building a working truck.
Are they broken or just hazy? If they're hazy, they can be cleaned up very nicely with any decent kit from the *-Mart store. I used the Crystal View Chemicals kit, worked just fine. Others have used the 3M and they turned out just fine, too. Once mine were nice and clear again, I stuffed some PIAA Xtreme White lamps into them and have been happy with them ever since. They're spendy but about as good as legal lights get. I'm going to hold off on the big lights until I get that bumper installed and can plant some not so legal lights into the pockets -- then if I kiss a Bambi I'll at least have the satisfaction of singing some fur before I get there.
