I've put about 35k mi on my truck since the 2" lift, no problems with the u-joint. what I'd look at is the driveshaft angle from the tranny... if it's steep, then it'll wear the joint out quicker...

I've got 2001 2WD, standard cab, short bed NV3500 TRANS, 31K miles. Stock tires, no lift. Lately, I'm hereing noise that sounds like it may be u joints. Starting the 1st of June I hope to be renting a niegbors garage so I can start doing some of my own truck maintanance. One of the first things I want to look at is u joints. Does a 2WD short bed have a mid ship bearing on the drive shaft.?

You greasing them on a regular basis? I've got 12 or so points that get grease every time I change the oil.

There are no grease fittings anywhere on this truck. Ball joints, Ujoints, nothing.

My u-joints on the front axles were going out at about 38,000 miles and the ball joints were shot. Got them changed under the 3 month warranty since I bought it used. The old ball joints weren't greasable but either the new upper or lower ball joints are (can't remember which).

Oh, ya my rear pinion seal is now leaking at 45,000 miles. Getting ready to change it soon.

Just so we don't feel too bad. My buddies bought new, and babied, 2001 2WD Silverado just had his rear pinion seal go at 48K. But at least his truck came with all the grease fitings.
