46re's suck.
So yeah my transmission with 35k on it is shifting weird. it takes off fine but then when it gets time to shift 1st to 2nd it takes it a second goes into 2nd gear and then about another one or two seconds later upshifts to 1st and back down real fast. I dropped the pan and there was no metal at all just some clutch dust. filter was alittle dirty but not bad. changed the filter and fluid and its still doing it. Also ever since i got the truck it makes a weird noise from the front of the bell housing. either idling or just starting off if i barely push the throttle. Any idea's tranny guru's?
Actually, those trannies do not suck. They can last a long time, depending on how you treat them. My brother used to have a 1998 Dodge 2500 4x4 and it had over 240,000 Miles because he didn't dick around with shiftin the gears on the column an doin all that hot roddin like others do. NOT SAYING YOU DO THIS! I'm just making a point, that they are great transmissions, and will last a long time if you treat it right.

What does the noise sound like? Is there a vibration accompanying it?
someone is defending a 46re?I must check to see if the clocks are running backwards. The 46 re both sucks and blows at the same time. For every one that has made it to 100k,there are 20 that didnt.Thats why you can buy a dodge for a song compared to a sliverado

im gonna have to go with the crowd on this one. im currently on tranny no.2 in my 2000. the truck obviously had a rough life when i got it, but has since been pampered. everyone i talked to about the 2nd gen. rams told me "you will LOVE the truck, but HATE the transmission" and darned if they werent right! wish i could slide a FORD tranny in it.
