my old man swears by marvel mystery oil.ive tried it a few time.imo its all snake oil.if you want to effectively clean out the motor then run a good quality full synthetic oil for 5k.full synthetics have a higher detergent % then standard API oils.use mopar combustion chamber cleaner and let it sit for 2-3hrs and watch for the smoke show

back to that lucas tranny stop slip is a joke. Used it in my th400 cause it was starting to slip a little big, Well long story short, it wrecked the tranny big time. I wish I woulda took pictures of all the parts and clutches that had to be replaced. That stuff pretty much swelled up all of the rubber seals in the tranny and then the sweel up so much the bust, next thing you know, you are 50 miles from home and have to limp the car in second gear the whole way home

Yes, the Lucas injector cleaner is good stuff for sure. I also use it at every fill up. The big bottles give you like 5 treatments for $10 at walmart or you can be stupid like my buddy over here who spends $4.50 for a single treatment...

So then you recommend using the Lucas oil stabilizer? How much do you add in with the 5 qts of oil?

I think Lucas uses 20% as their guideline, so if you have a 5 qt. capacity they would recommend a quart of treatment. that sounded really high to me (and expensive) so I have been splitting a quart of lucas across both of my vehicles at every change. 1/2 quart to 5 or quarts. Lucas recommends up to 2 quarts if your vehicle is smoking excessively or has major blowby, though no treatment in the world is going to fix that only mask it.

Oil treatments of all types are going to be items of debate forever. My rule of thumb is that if you are putting an additive in your oil for preventative reasons, or to possibly extend the life of your oil between changes, then go for it, it might actually have a benefit or it might just make you feel better (like a spiderman bandaid does for my 3 year old)....but if you are hoping that your vehicle will run better, have more power, or be "healed" of an ailment of any kind, there is no answer in the bottom of a bottle. There still is no substitute for clean, fresh oil changed more often than not, before problems manifest, and the jury is still out on synthetic and its' benefits/drawbacks.

Hey thanks for the advice, I didn't know it was that kind of subject?! And I have never used additives in the past. Maybe because I was always tearing them down.Just thought I would give it a shot. I only put about a quarter of a can in the valve cover and half a can in the tank. It didn't blow up, but it will come out soon. LOL. Probably not enough to really do anything either way.
