If i toss on the 14X3 air cleaner what kinda hp/tq/mpg gains should i see if any? I have a glass pack right now and im going to either gut my cat or go high flow...

 

I noticed I lost a little on the low end, but helped out a ton about 3k on up. It's not so much that it decreases your torque, but helps move the power just a little further up on the RPM's, which is great if your on the throttle all the time. For regular every day driving, it just didn't do it for me, especially pulling a trailer. Others have different opinions on this, only way to find out is to put it on and try it out for yourself. I took it off and on every other month for the past year or so, and I can say from personal experience I have had best luck with an S&B CAI, or Volant CAI.

 

i didnt like how loud the 14x3 was so i got the spectre cai

 

I ran the 14x3 for quite a while then I put the stock air box back on with a drop in K&N filter to see if it would help my mileage. Well, it didn't and when I got on it soon after putting the stock box back on I couldn't believe how much that thing chokes the engine in the upper rpms. I was running about 70 thinking "man, I should be bucking about 90 by now".

 

I will wait to build or buy a CAI then...

Wow thats not bad at all! Im hoping with the glass pack that i just installed, a CAI a tune up and the plenum i can go from 11mpg too 14 or so lol.

 

While the Spectre is okay, it is not a true cold air intake, to even feel the benefits of cooler air, you need a sealed filter, not just a filter with a dinky heat shield. S&B ($215), Volant (approx $260), or RamAirBox(The best by far, it is also in the 2-300 price range).

Just boxing the filter off from the engine compartment doesn't really do much, as the intake is still drawing air from the stock location. Thru the fender. And where does that air come from? The hole at the front, that leads directly to.... the engine compartment.

Rolling down the road, yeah, it should have some benefit, but, around town, or trail crawling, the only benefit you will see if from the better flow capability of the aftermarket induction systems.

A 'real'... cold air induction system, needs to be able to get air that does NOT pass thru the engine compartment. I haven't explored much into this aspect of things for my truck yet, as I currently have bigger fish to fry.
