Default Radio question

We just bought a 00' 2500 Sport with the standard cassette radio. I want to ungrade to the factory CD radio, Infinity speakers and the steering wheel radio controls. It appears from the mnauals that it is just plug and play for these options. Is it true? I am pretty sure that I can find this stuff on EBay, Craigslist, and the local bone yards.

Would be cheaper and easier (not to mention better sound) by simply going with aftermarket components.

You will need:
all the speakers.
the amplifiers in the doors.
wiring harnesses for above.
steering wheel with the controls, and an airbag..... not cheap.
wiring in the steering column. (and running that should be fun.....)
door panels to accommodate the additional speakers in the doors.
head unit..... of course.
Not sure if the dash harness is different (aside from the additional wiring required) with the infinity system. Wouldn't surprise me either way.

I am probably missing some pieces as well.
