Default 1996 V10 to run on 8 cylinders

ok i bought a 1996 dodge 2500 4x4 extended cab long bed, with the v10 and an auto tranny. it has 270,000 miles, and a blown motor. i bought it to switch the transfercase out with my other truck.

so after i get the transfercases switched i was planning on swipping a few parts then just taking it to the junkyard. i can get what i paid out of it just for the price of scrap metal. (anyone no how much it might weigh? im guessing 6 or 7 thousand?)

but when i got it home i pulled the oil pan and found the problem: the left back cylinder, number 9? i think it is (its the very back one on the drivers side) the piston broke and now rod is not conected to the piston and the piston is jamed in their. so decided to take out the rod and get it off of the crank shaft.

i got that done and put a batterie in it and tried to turn it over,it did, it even spuddered a little bit.

so now i think i can get this thing to run on 9 cylinders, but i figgured sence i took the one rod out it will proble not be ballenced??? right????

so im thinking i should take out one of the rods on the opisite side to ballance it?? and some how get the piston not to move? i will proble just put a few spot welds on the piston and cylinder wall to hold it in place.

and then i will need to stop the gas from coming into the two cylinders correct? will putting like steel wool in the intake work? or just weld a plate over it?

so will my idea work?to make a v10 into a v8? this truck wont see the road, most likly if it will run decent, i will take it to a demo derby or just beat the hell out of it before i junk it.

thanks! trying to have a little fun with this old thing

also what would i be looking at to get a new v10 motor for it?

IMO, no offence okay. But why would you want to make a v10 a v8? I is possible just unplug two of your spark plug caps, and remove the fuel injectors for the two cylinders your not wanting to use. But Why? Just have the v10 repaired man, and you got you a good truck.

Do you want this truck body at all? If you don't ruin anything on it I WANT IT! I will come an haul it away. Because I need another truck that is a 4x4.

Get back to me.

V10 running on all cylinders will make 450ftlbs of torque at 2800rpm bone stock.
Takes serious modifications to get that out of a 5.9.

Thought I heard everything, V10 to V8, lmao

If 9 is out, also disconnect & tack 8.
Cylinder 8 is the 5th firing cylinder after 9 (1-10-9-4-3-6-5-8-7-2)
Cant remove the injector (fuel rail may leak a bit) but can disconnect the electrical connector to it so it wont fire.

Be sure to get vid & post it if you can get it to run for giggles.
Maybe a bit lumpy at idle if it will even run lmao.

V10 QC 4x4 should be around 6400lbs even give or take (depending on options/tires)

Oh & btw, welcome to the forum!

I can't believe I'm posting in this thread, but here goes...

IF: you are wanting to run this thing on eight cylinder for fuel expense
THEN: Install rear mount turbo 1-3 PSI to get some MPGs back

IF: You want to just have a running motor to sell it.
THEN: Either rebuild motor or pay a shop to rebuild.

As RM said, if you go through with this, I want videos and pictures because I wonder how long it will run before parts start to go flying all over the place.

FYI, with 8 also disconnected the ignition firing order will be balanced.
God only knows what the internal wt balance would be.
Id suspect it will fry the crank bearings & take out the rest of the rotating assembly pretty quick.
Be sure to have camera/vid ready to go on first try lol
