Default Rear bumper wieght reduction for racers/street freaks

DISCLAIMER: IF YOU TOW WITH YOUR BUMPER, DRIVE OFFROAD, OR LIVIE IN FEAR OF BEING REAR ENDED BY A SOCCER MOM IN HER SUV WHILE TEXTING HER BOYFRIEND, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RADICALLY MOD THIS PART.

I got my bumper brackets back the other day and was thinking that the center section is a ton of weight to haul around if you're trying to cut fast times.
So I tried to mark out some areas that could be cut away on the top and bottom.
I had already drilled some extra holes to help wash out the trpped guckus that gets betwween the bracket and bumper fascia, but these could be made into slots, further reducing weight. With a bit of work you could probably halve the weight of this bracket.

If you want to reduce wt just ditch the bumper altogether & put a rollpan on

+1 on the rollpan, looks much better and less work than modding the bumper

how much weight would you remove by doing that , stock bumper to a roll pan ?

it would make the rear end lighter to make the burnouts a lil easyier lol

I can tell you the wt of dozens of parts, except the bumper.
When I bought my Indy new I made sure it came with the factory rollpan
I wanted the look & the wt savings.
The factory pan with license plate, plate light/pigtail & mounting brackets is 12lbs total

But don't you WANT more weight towards the rear? I would think that if you wanted to do weight reduction, you would concentrate on the FRONT of the truck? Move the battery to the bed, etc??

You mean like this?

Cant remember but the stock manifolds to headers was a wt loss
Redtop Optima I use is only 34lbs, think stock battery was 67lbs
My MSD Digital 6 ign box is under the passenger seat.
Stock power seating for a 96 weighs 154lb total including the brackets they sit on.
My racebuckets & brackets they sit on weigh 40lbs total
Moving my fuel system to behind the axle
Moving my battery from the front of the bed to the very back
No wipers mtr, linkage, washer resevoir (since 01)
No viscous fan, clutch or shroud with my efans it was a 3lb savings
Removed my fog lights (may put them back though)
Removed the ac (27lbs)
Aluminum heads instead of steel (48lbs, running rocker girdles which added 3.5lbs)
Intercooler was directly behind the trim below the bumper, moving to where ac condensor was which will eliminate some of the pipe work & moves it higher so will have better wt transfer.
Stock Indy rims/rubber weigh 66lbs x 4 = 264lb total (fresh rubber)
My MT sportsman fronts are 28x7.5 on 15x7" Weld draglite rims weigh 32 each or 64lbs for the pair
MT ET Streets 28x12.5" on 15x8 Draglite rims are 36lb each for 72lb total for pair
Grand total of 136lb vs 264lbs stock
Lug nuts stock were 3.6lbs (20 nuts) ones I use weigh 2.2lbs

Like some of the manufacturers are doing these days Ive gone by the gram program since 98.
Paying attention to every single detail no matter how small will yield dividends.

Part of the reasaon I was able to run a 13.99 et when I had stock tb, stock kegger, stock heads & valve train, stock cam & all other internals.
I dont know of anyone to ever run a 13 in a genII without nos, supercharger or getting into the motor.

Use to freak out the Lightning guys at the track & couple guys with Vettes that I beat.
When I popped the hood & there was no boost or bottle, really pissed them off when I told them it was a stock 360 lol.

And it gives that nice sense of satisfaction as well.

And whomever said "the devil is in the details" was quite right.

What is your current weight? I think the projections on your list there are a tad out of date?
