there are a lot of hyper miler's that will shut off the engine while coasting to a stop or down an extended hill... CNBC or ABC did a special about it maybe two years back.. acting like it was the best thing since sliced bread... i brought up the same concern in a letter to the show, the response to me was a long winded you're an idiot that wants to kill the environment type thing.

He's right! I get 15mpg+ in my 5.9 Durango CONSISTENTLY by driving like an oldie! Pisses the big trucks off behind me as they pass me like they're going to a fire and pisses them off even more when I catch them at the light just in time to hit the green light...haa!

Well i just turned 18 and had my truck in high school too, and i too have a flowmaster 40 series, and i was getting the same mileage you were, so i tried medium grade 89 octane, and it gets me 14mpg and i dont baby the thing, i have fun with it, its worth it, 1 dollar more per 10 gallons, so normally i pay 2 dollars more for it per tank.

Im knew and i know the thread is kinda dead but here are my thought on better gas mileage. Always change fluid and do preventative maint to ur truck. Cai in theory is suppose to give u better gas mileage. Colder air is more dense. Cars go by density, so more dense should equal less fuel Mbecause its closer to the optimium air/fuel ratio. Dont romp on the gas pedal just cuz u have better response. I put a cai on my vw( i know different auto) but i get 3mpg more if im not stompin on it(lets face it that sound is badda**.Weight reduction in a smart way will help to. Ive done fluid changes, cai, cap and rotor change, side gapped my spark plugs( does it work? Idk, bUt i like the thoery) msd wires and accel igtion coil. Clean iat sensor. New pcv and breather filter( alot of people forget about these simple things) and alignment. I get anywhere from 15 to 15.6 mpg mainly highway tho. Consistenly i might add. No mods to keggar or tb. Things i would like to do is bed cover( mainly to keep snow outta there) headers(shorty or long tubes, either way better air flow exit should mean slighty better mpgs idk tho) computer controlled bigger cam and roller rockers(in my mind should give me better power and mpgs because im not increase air or fuel into engine just better flow and exit of same stock fuel/air which should provide better engine efficiency)

It's always best to try not to know things you haven't bothered to learn.

The PCM works its *** off to maintain a 14.7:1 air:fuel ratio. If the air is denser there's more of it per intake stroke gulp, which necessarily requires there to be more gasoline to maintain that 14.7:1 ratio.

End of lesson. Have a nice day.

Maybe i miss spoke, thank u for the lesson. So the hotter the air the better fuel economy ull have? Im pretty sure that the 14.7:1 fuel air ratio is the best ratio for fuel economy. Hotter air mean less fuel but also less power which means more throttle which mean more gas used. Colder air means more fuel and power but since theres more power less throttle is required which means less gas overall. Since im getting more mpg in my autos since changing to cai, im pretty sure its better fuel economy. Thank u for ur lesson.
