01 ram steering gear box ? `
have over 100,000 on steering gear box tryed to take some of the slop out but not really much better , have seen several in my junkyard runs lately ,i have 1500 but does it make any difference on years on 1500 2500 and any way to tell in junkyard if one is tight , my luck the one i bring home would be wore out too? any input or suggestion are welcomed wv dodge

The stock Saginaw box has been too weak for this kind of service since they first invented it, but it's gone on lots of trucks over the years. If you'd rather have a much stronger upgrade unit, try the Borgeson box with a Delphi gear instead. It'll cost a lot more, but it's a slick unit that's tighter, faster, and should last a lot longer.

There are TWO adjustments that need to be done on the steering box. I ran into the same issue. Adjusting the pitman shaft tension is easy, doing the sector shaft is a bit more interesting, but, mine has a fair bit of slop there too.
