so i brought home my 01 2500 with the 5.9 yesterday and on my way home there was a whinning noise... i know its vauge but its commin from underneath the cab so im pritty sure tranny. ive SEARCHED aleady lol. and i cant find anything like my problem. so the whinning noice sounds like a deisel turbo whine butt its not diesel nor turboed. lol. and its louder and in the tranny i believe. it only happens on take off and once im cruisin and i put some throttle in it it only kicks in after about 2400rpm. help anybody? thanks, much appriciated.

 

Manual, or Automatic? Checked the fluid level? Does it seem to shift ok?

 

auto fluid lvls fine. and it doesnt smell burnt.. thats what was messin with me. lol. shifts perfectly.

 

Mine gives me a bit of gear whine in first gear, and goes away as soon as it shifts.... I assume that its 'normal'......

If you are really concerned, you could drop the pan, change the fluid and filter, and see if you find anything untoward in the pan......
