Default add cruise control?

Anyone ever add cruise control to their ST model truck? Was driving my moms car tonight and liked the added luxury. Was wondering what all was involved and if it were possible.

I know I'd have to swap the steering wheel (I'd prb just pull the whole steering column from a junkyard and get the added tilt function too, along with the controls. I'll need the servo, and I know a cable runs to the TB, a vacuum line etc.

Here is the part I don't know. As far as .... pcm interaction goes, is it as simple as plug and play or not and the computer will pick up that cruise is now there? Are the harness connectors already there ( I do have a few in the engine bay that don't go anywhere. etc.

Right now the idea sounds good in my head. Just looking for info at this point and may plan to do this down the road depending what info arrises.

Thanks in advance,
Greg

Look under your battery, I think there should be two connectors there? for the cruise, if you find those, you should be able to just plug and play. Getting the whole column is definitely the best route.

I just read the FSM and aparently cruise is electronically disabled. (It says when its hooked up it is automatically enabled, when non existant, electronically disabled = plug and play.) The upshift indicatior is the only one that needs turned on by the DRB. I do have spare plugs in the engine bay and assume one must be for the cruise. Hmm.... might have to keep an eye out when im near a jy.

I have also been thinking about doing this. Can you just pull the cruise buttons on the bottom of a steering wheel at the JY and pop it on my steering wheel? I believe its held in by two screws on the backside of the wheel... Or do you really have to change out the whole damn column?

There is some wiring, a clockspring (I assume) and other such in the column as well. You could try and scavenge that from a donor vehicle, but, in my view, changing out the entire column would be easier. Not sure if the steering wheels are the same with/without cruise......
