parts list for engine replacement... anything i missed?

There is probably a bunch of crud down in the heatsheilds, that is preventing you from getting the socket all the way on. If you have compressed air available, try blowing it out, if you don't, use a pair of pliers, and just yank the heatsheilds out of there. It won't hurt anything not having them there. They hang on nice and tight though... so, it might take a bit to get them to surrender.
had to put it back together and now the truck is running rough and vibrating in overdvrive. i did try to yank the heat shield out and may have damged that plug idk

Sounds like you either have a cracked plug, wires on wrong/insufficient, or something along those lines...... Probably have a miss, and that will make it drive REALLY funny..... Might be wires arcing too......

i did cut a little piece off of the rubber boot so that it wuld snap back on the spark plug becuz i had crimped the heat shield at the bottom trying to get it off. wuld that cause any problems?
