Default Karma is a beesh.

My transmission went out a while back. Im a college freshman so money is tight. There is an automotive technician program here at the college. My roommates are in that program, so why not get a bunch of other freshman to rebuild it and save me some money........ Its the first day of week seven and we are getting ready to put it back in for the fourth time. Im in this repair roughly $400.

They say this is definetly the last problem and it should work. If it doesnt Im just gonna get a new one. Im thinking I shouldnt have been so cheap and just got it done professionaly.

what do you guys recommend should I just give up on this transmission and get a new one or wait it out a lil more?

First and Reverse work fine but it wont upshift. We think there is a problem with the valve body. We have two valve bodies. the spare is missing some parts so we are rebuilding it. we need to readjust the rear band, retorque both the rear and front bands, put on the new valve body and try her out.

Sure is a learning experience for the students then eh? You are serving a useful purpose. Just smile, and enjoy having the additional 1100 to 1600 dollars NOT taken out of your pocket.

Actually time is getting cut pretty close. we are getting kicked out of our dorms in about a week for renovations. I dont only need to pack up and move my stuff but my GF as well. Im driving a 97 Ford Explorer and now way can I make more than one trip. My hometown is 4 hours away.

But you guys do have a point, it could be saving me alot of money. I just need to be patient, but I miss the old girl =[.

I now how you feel. when my tranny went down, I went 4 MONTHS without my truck (there were some legal issues going on. Namely my mechanic being arrested for some low down sh*t). So I ended up rebuilding myself. Took me a about 2 days total to assemble and install, but I spent about 2 months researching because this was NOT something I wanted to do twice. Whatever you decide, buy whats needed and DON'T GO CHEAP AND DON'T RUSH. I decided to save a couple of dollars and buy a rebuilt trans solenoid and wouldn't you know it. Memorial day weekend it went out on me. I had to get towed home and what 4 days to get the part. Then another 3 days to install it.

I took the new valve body to a tranmission specialist about 15 minutes ago, and he basically called us idiots for burning up the first front band (that he gaves us for free, but we fixed that problem) and said that it is probably a bad govenor sensor. Where can I get a pretty cheap g sensor to try out. I dont really trust a junk yard.

A "pretty cheap" sensor is gonna leave you pretty stuck!
