Default How do I clean a Throttle Body?

2001 Dodge Ram 1500. How do I clean this? I tried looking up information on line but according to my Brother in Law, This truck has throttle Body carburation, isn't that the same thing as a throttle body?

Your BIL is either mistaken or speaking something other than English: Your truck has no carburetion at all. The throttle body does nothing more than meter air -- the fuel enters via the injectors stationed in front of each port.

My favorite way to clean port injection throttle bodies is to remove the beastie from the manifold, get any rubber/plastic parts off, then boil (actually a high simmer) them in distilled water for about an hour, shaking it around with tongs every now and then while it simmers Then remove from the bath, brush off any sticky stuff with an old toothbrush and put it back for another half hour or so. After that, take it out (carefully, while still good and hot), blow out the water with compressed air, shoot some penetrating oil into the moving parts, and put it back into service. The throttle body will be as clean as if caustic solvents were used, but with no metal etching or erosion.

Most folks hereabouts seem to like using aerosol spray carb cleaner... I'm odd.

Yup I used carb cleaner. You can call me whipped but if my woman came home and saw a pot of water boiling and asked "What's for dinner" and I said "Throttle body". I would get my *** kicked. I would probably sleep in my truck that night.

I don't know if you where asking about a DIY or not.
but you can go here. it is another forum but it will help.

This will walk you through the steps with pics. It's not that hard and remember if you break something just come on here. Pictures always help.

Here is the before:

And the after:

I would assume that it would turn out either way. I was bored as hell that day so I did it by hand.

Okay: You're whipped!

But seriously now: I use old pots or roasting pans for this, as it'd be potentially dangerous to use something you might cook in later. For smaller parts I use a pot, for larger parts a roasting pan. For heat I use a single-burner backpacking stove, the two-burner Coleman camp stove, or my King Kooker with 54,000 BTU burners. I'd never boil parts in the house. My wife's an understanding and indulgent truck chick, but neither of us wants the house to smell like the garage.

And just to make sure they'll not be cooked in, the pots I use are aluminum which I won't even allow in my kitchen. I won't even drink beer out of aluminum. (I'm the primary cook in the house, so all of the cookware is either cast iron or stainless.) Fifty cents at a yard sale will usually bring something home that will do the trick.

It's bad for the central nervous system, and I've got only one very frayed nerve left and would like to keep it.

I seem to almost remember hearing that once. But, surely, if it there were a shred of truth to the fact that aluminum causes, uh, um, oh darn... what was I saying again? Never mind. If it were important I would have remembered it.
