This is a question I have been wondering about as well.... On gm products, which I am far more familiar with.... that flex plate/flywheel is balanced to the engine, and torque converters don't care which engine they are bolted to. (350 is internally balanced, 400 is externally balanced..... both are small blocks.)

Weights are put on the torque converter to balance the converter.... are the 318 vs. 360 converters balanced differently? I really don't know, and have not been able to make that determination. Best bet would be to call a t/c manufacturer, and ask.....

The torque converters are the same internally. The 318 is internally balanced and therefore uses no external weights. The 5.9L is externally balanced and uses a specific harmonic balancer and a weighted torque converteror flexplate. The 92-95 rams with the 5.9L have a weight welded to the torque converter while 96+ has the weight on the flexplate.

On my 97 5.2, the weights are welded on the converter and not the flexplate.

The 5.2L is internally balanced and uses no weight on the converter/flexplate to balance the motor. The weights on your converter are for the neutral balance of the converter not to balance the motor.

Thanks for the replies,
I checked and the converter has no weight for the crank welded to the mount face area, but I thought it may be the 5.9 because one hole is offset on my converter, but not the flex plate. That is how I found the truck may have the wrong one.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Scott

I tried to see if someone ground the welds off the weight, but did not see. I am still curious if anyone knows why one hole is offset on the converter?
Please let me know.
Thanks,
Scott
