Default Front and rear end ( CHANGE )

Need some help here. I have a 2001 Sport with the 9.25 front and rear ends. I have afrind that has a 95 ,2500 and he is parting it out. He said he would sale me the both for 350, but his is the dana 44. How hard would it be to change them out and would they bolt right in to my truck. I'm so sick of the 3.55 gears in mine. Any and all help would sure be helpful

You have a 9.25 rear end but a 44 front. You should check the axles on his again because a 2500 should not have a 44 under it.
Also, they should be bolt up with the biggest difference being the width of the rear spring perches. Those will need to be cut down to your 1500 width.
Someone else will need to chime in but, I'm not sure if OBDI axles can be swapped into an OBDII truck. Your computer will not get all the signals it will need.

There is a light duty 3/4 ton that has a dana 44 front... basically the same axle but with 8 bolt hubs. I wouldn't bother with swapping it out... too much work for no upgrade.

If all you are looking for is different gearing, then just swap out the gears. It will be cheaper in the long run (wont have to change drive-shafts, wheels etc.). If you plan on big tires and serious wheeling, then look for a dana 60 before changing gears.

I have 285s on it right now, but I can't put bigger tires and wheels on it. It wouldn't have the b*lls to put them. The 3.55 gears suck here in Northeast Pa with the hills. WHen I hook up my Trailer I have to be so very carefull with the hills I go up. Maybe I should just check into getting news gears for both ends. What gears would people here use if it was up to youi. I also drive the drive the truck everyday so keep that in mind

4.10 gears and since you'll already be in there put in some traction aid too.

Yeah, there were two versions of the 3/4 ton..... The light duty, had a dana 44 front, and 60 rear, I think, the heavy duty version had 60's front and rear. Still had the same **** poor 3.55 gears though..... You might get lucky, and find 3.92's though, or EXTREMELY lucky, and find 4.10s. Have a look at the axles, there should be tags on 'em on one of the cover bolts that tell what gears are in it.

Another member here did a 60 swap, front and rear. I think he even has a thread on it somewhere.

Nope. The off-road edition came with 4.10s. 3.55s were stock on everything else.

FWIW, my 2nd gen had 3.92's. Although not overly common, they were an option.
