Where do you find engines?
The RHS Heads are BARE. You need to pay for springs, valves, retainers, seals, etc. SO 320 per head turns into 620 per head.
Also...What friggin camshaft would he use that would open the valves .600!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He would be using a race camshaft where the powerband would be from 3000-7000 RPMs.
Here is how flow rates work:
Our stock trucks open the valves about .430. So when you read those flow numbers, the numbers after .430 don't matter. So, to hit that .600 flow rate, you would need a MONSTER camshaft and you would need to cut valve reliefs in the pistons.

So long as he used his stock valves, springs, ect then the ebay deal is cheaper... Not sure where you get $620/head loaded. He could go straight to Hughes and get the RHS heads loaded with alloy 1.92/1.62s and decent springs for $825. The 1.92s will be more responsive on the street and make more torque all while flowing the same as the Iron Ram`s with the 2.02s...
In repone to CPTAWi63 , what did you use for a manifold , and at a quick glance , it looks like you engine compartment looks like you have eliminated some of the clutter ! I have a 01 dodge Ram 2500 with a Fastman 52mm throtle body and a set of Pace Headers that go into a single 3 inch JBA exhaust ! I haven't had the extra money for a few other things yet , but in time ! What I would really like is to get rid of the clutter , but not lose anything power wise !
I just keep it clean and make sure the wires are routed correctly. The Mopar Valvecovers give the illusion of not being cluttered.
Throttle Body and headers is a great start. That is what I started with on my 1996. Take your time and do a couple things per year. And always save your parts. When you sell your car, you will want some things ESPECIALLY if you plan on getting another 2ndgen like I did.
I'm in the process of swapping a hemi into my 97. These guys who tell you that you are going to spend ten grand on it before its done are full of it, no offense to anyone but unless you have firsthand knowledge you should probably chime out, the way to do it is find a wrecked Gen3 that way you have everything I picked up my rolled 03 for a grand and after scraping the truck and selling some parts I'm about 480 into it and I still have my 360 trans and t case to unload along with some other miscellaneous parts. So the cost of a built 360 is bunk unless you consider a CAI and new plug wires built. Craigslist is the best place to find the truck you just have to be patient. There are several online with tranny and t case anywhere from 1300 to 2500. If you're going to do it do it don't let others stop you all you need to have fabricated is motor mounts PM if you have any questions I'm more than happy to help. Also the guys on the Dakota forums are a good source for hemi swaps.
Did anyone stop and think for a second that the guy might be looking at throwing a 426 HEMI in there instead of the third gen motor that everyone assumed?
New gen HEMIs do have dual plugs per cylinder. Something like uppers at 30K and lowers at 75K or something like that. Been awhile since I looked into it.
As for finding the motor, keep checking CL regularly. www.copart.com is another good place to poke around for motors and or totaled trucks/cars. It just takes patience. Trust me. I like to never found a decently priced 440. All the guys in my area were saying,"well, it's in this old station wagon, and you'll need to pull it yourself. Oh, it probably doesn't run either, but I still want $1800 for it".
I finally found one from my neighbor next door sitting in a 75 dump truck. Yea, yea, it's not the iconic 440 from the muscle car era, but in reality, I just want the block...

Don't get me wrong, i love my truck, but unless you have a diesel trying to build a "fast" truck is kinda pointless. You will spend way too much money and lose way too many MPG's than it will ever be worth.
Throw in a 5.9 and a sweet sounding exhaust and enjoy!!

Think about this...I stroked my 360, performer rpm heads, shorty headers, kb pistons, hemifever tune, and a few other little tricks for about 7K (overestimate). I make about 400 horse, and 500lbs torque. That's still less than the cost to do a HEMI swap!
k well im just goin to jump in for a few seconds here haha. since this is an interesting conversation.. i want a 1999 360 with mid to low km's and i need one in Canada, Ontario anyone know of a site or a place to get engine to wrecked vehicule with that engine.
Thanks Jason!
Thanks Jason!
So you have swapped a hemi?
