The non-foulers are to avoid getting the code. I am not sure if the PCM will be annoyed enough to stay out of closed loop if it thinks that cat is bad.
I was actually planning on getting my cat cut off tomorrow. I have a 2000 and was wondering if I had to do the non fouler trick, or can I just get the cat cut off and be fine. If it just throws a code thats fine but I don't want to be running rough and getting bad economy afterwards.
I think you have to do the rear o2 sensor or it will run pretty rough. It's not hard to do if your worried about it, even someone as mechanically challenged as me did it.
Alright I found Hammer's write up so after I get it cut off if it feels like its running horribly I will do that. How long does it take about 15 minutes? Thanks for the responses.
the post O2 sensor does not affect how the motor runs, the post O2 is a emissions thing so it is setup to throw a code so that you can not pass inspection
alright awesome I dont think my CEL works so I'm not too worried about the code. I just didn't want it to be running rich or lean because of what the 2nd o2 sensor is saying. I live in FL also so no emission testing here.
I've a question, I see all sorts of information about what to do with rear O2 sensor's but nothing about the front one. I have a 1996 dodge ram sport, my front O2 sensor is In the cat, if I were to take the cat off what would I do with the front O2 sensor, do you just put it in the pipe? I know you cant get rid of it from what I've read, just didnt know if it would work in the pipe or not. Any input would be appreciated , Thanks.
