Underhood light
Love that website, covered in ambiguity and assumptions with key words such as: potentially, assume, general rule, and the ever popular "check all except".
I believe that website as much as I believe anyone who serves in elected office. Mercury has been banned from many traditional uses for many years, so my advice to you is to find a more reliable source of information.

(Shows 2000 and 2001 ford f150 had those type switches.)
There are additional state ones found on www.google.com if you care to look
the bulb is replacable, pop the cap off and it unclips, i got mine at a local autozone, there were a few like it but the guy helped me out with the right part number. and it seems like more than a steel ball, not sure, but its a mecury vapor, or metal hallide lamp, i dunno its not incandesant so something is going on in there. :/
I think! If you are trying to go "back to the future"

Sorry! I had to. If you are in a hurry take out the bulb and later find out what's going on with the switch!!!!

take the light off the truck and pop it open and check for corrosion on the terminals. Mine was working fine but of course I had to mess around with it and broke the heavily corroded contact off... I can get pics if anyone needs, the light is on my bench until I find a replacement solution to underhood lighting....
I haven't read any posts in this thread, but the thread title got me thinking:
My lamp doesn't work (smashed). I like to nthink that my truck is a fine example of a well taken care of 2ndgen. But having a fully functional lamp is really a testament to how well an owner takes care of their 2ndgen. i am getting an under hood bulb today!!!

You can have the one I took out of olyelr. Been sitting in the top of my tool box for about 8 years now. All it needs is a bulb. Road trip? hahahahahah.
Damn maybe a flux capacitor would help my truck out, problem is they cost too much
And we all drive dodge's so a working underhood light is not needed
Ended up fixing my problem by running a switch and after all this I might think about busting open the light and getting the bulb out and putting in a replacement gonna have to get headlight cleaner so that some light can shine through since the lens is YELLOW

Well got bored today and took the underhood light apart to fix it, found a blown bulb so figured no prob easy fix, nope of course not
So take it apart and it is a ball in a little cylinder that rolls around to make a connection when angled so far, cleaned it up and got it working with a little bending of connectors
Picture of light housing off of truck the cylinder on top right corner is the thing with the ball and it makes a connection through the cylinder with the hood open and turns the light on, if yours doesnt work you may need to pry it a little and shake the ball to get it moving around again
