Default Underhood light

Ok does anybody know what causes it to turn off when you close the hood and also what fuse it uses, I tried to use it for leds and they stay on constant so need to unplug the fuse for now so I can figure out why its not turning off when the hood closes

I was told by the parts guy at the dealer that the switch is built into the light,
kind of works like the old mercury home thermastat for your furnace.

Pretty sure it is is a mercury switch? To keep the led's from lighting with the hood shut, you will need to install a resistor.

Is that the same as a flux capacitor?

lol why, are you looking for a flux capacitor? I might have one laying around hahaha. Nah I was refering to this type of resistor. We used this specific one on my buddy's 08 ram because he swapped to led dome, led map, and they would stay dimmly lit even with the doors shut.

My wiring is most likely different in my 01. Grab your manual out of your glove box. Also, doesn't the light have a wiring connector on it? pop the connector if you can't find the fuse.

Yes, the light has a connector for sure. But, he probably tapped in well before that, so it will most likely not do him any good... although I'm not the electrical guru here.

And yes, I am in need of a few flux capacitors if you have a few handy.
