Welcome to DF.

This concept has been done before, but its not cheap or easy. You basically need a 2500 or 3500 suspension in the front to support the much heavier engine. You'll need an entire donor truck, as you will also need the tougher transmission and drivetrain to handle the torque of the diesel, not to mention wiring, sensors, etc. etc. etc.

I'm not saying you can't do it, just that it'd be far easier, and perhaps cheaper, to buy a 2nd gen diesel 2500.

unless you're getting to cummins for free.. you might as well buy a 2500 ctd and put a 1500 badge on it...

It is very simple 2 step process. Listen Carefully:

1. Sell your 1500
2. Buy a 2500 with a 5.9 CTD

4bt swap would be alot easier if it is 2wd.

I think he was referring to a 2nd gen period correct CTD enigne?

But I agree, it will be alot of time, work, money and patience. But the end result will be a great feeling and a truly unique truck if you can pull it off.

Unless you have a CTD sitting in your garage that you have free control over, I probably wouldn't do the swap....especially if the CTD needs to be rebuilt before going in...

There are helpful tools and products that make the swap alot easier...like the painless wiring harness for the CTD, and tone of other useful stuff. I recommend you dig around in some issues of diesel power and get a little more knowledge and understanding of these torque monsters before you go fooling around with dropping one into you 1/2 ton pickup... Just my

That's odd that this post shows up because it passed through my head today. My trucks been in the family since new and it would be a unique project for down the road since I don't ever see getting rid off it. But hopefully that is a loooong way away and I'll get many more useful years out of the magnum.
