Default Transmission is Toast **advice**

What A week for MonteC to be away....I have officially destroyed my transmission with Water. I have it in a local shop and know and trust the gentleman that is gonna revive it. There is enough information on that thread and without saying anything to him he recommended The Sure Cure and an AUX Cooler. He also said he wanted to remove the check valve .....I told him it had already been done ( Thank you AIMFORSQUIRRELS ) . I am also gonna get him to replace the 2 part rear main seal while the trans is outta the way... If anyone has any other suggestions and add ons that have worked for them please let me know. Thanks

Damn dude, sucks you killed your tranny. That is an expensive lesson...

I'm doing my tranny update/servicing this week or next week and one of my planned on upgrades is a Deep Tranny Pan. 'Ol buddy at the Mopar Nationals who won the burnout contest last year (in a 2nd gen 360 magnum Ram) told me about this mod when we were talking about our trucks. He told me the trans is running 45-50 degrees cooler with the upgraded pan, and he also has a trans temp gauge in cab. Talked me into doing it, and I talked him into getting the FF Dynamics E-Fan setup..Lol

A quality deep pan with drain plug should run around 150 - 200 bucks depending on the exterior finish

On page six of Monte's thread, there is a list of parts he recommended for another member that did heavy towing. You might not need ALL the parts on that list..... but, if you went for them, your trans would be pretty much bullet proof. Keep in mind, that it is upwards of a thousand bucks, just in parts.... which includes pretty much everything you need. (well, except labor. I have been looking for 'labor in a can' for years. still haven't found it.)

I assume by your post that you were wheeling and water entered the transmission. While it's out, have him modify the transmission vent so it vents higher up.

YEah that's exactly what happened....and I couldn't even get it out with my Mike Marker 12000lb . I asked about the vent and he told me that he will do his best...but that he believes that the vent may be located in the bell housing and impossible to vent higher. He said he would know more once it is out.

Yeah I was thinking about looking for one ...seems to make sense...more fluid more cooling. I don't care about appearance.

Typically people will plug the vent inside the bell housing and drill/tap the case then run a line somewhere in the engine bay.

I Will ask him to do this...as I have built this truck to be trucking through the brush...and it is no fun to just watch everyone else and pull them when they get stuck..I like to have a little fun too....only problem is I had a little too much fun and It cost me BIG TIME! Thanks for your imput....anyone have any links to a good deep pan they have used?

The Mag-Hytec pan is a good piece that is used pretty commonly:

It sounds like you wheel a lot so I'd stick with the deep pan and not the double deep pan as it sticks down pretty far.

Have the rear freeze plugs replaced while the tranny is pulled, and get a good quality torque converter.
