I just finished the plenum repair on my 1997 dodge ram and I have a vacuum leak somewhere. I have what looks to be like a vacuum plug left over and not sure where it goes. I'm assuming on the intake on the driver side because when I turn it off I can hear it on that side. Looking at the driver side of the intake there is no spot for this plug.

 

I suggest you take a picture and post it.

 

DO your brakes work? if not, it is the master cylinder.

Maybe someone has a pic they can post. Just spray some water around the intake from a water bottle. YOu will find the leak when you spray it oaround a part and your engine starts to die. THen you found the leak.

Wait,

Did you plug back in your Map sensor vac tube. I thought i had mine in there, then I realized it was just wedged in on top of the plug.

1. Look at your throttle body. there is a small rectangular black plastic sensor on the front of the throttle body. Make sure the vac tube is connected to the port on the front of your throttle body.

 

I will go check that right now. I will also post a picture of that little plug if that isnt it.

Overall the plenum repair wasnt that bad. Just hard on the back after leaning over for so long. Thanks guys!

When I did mine, the heat got me so bad that i could not figure out how the vac lines were supposed to go back. And I had done in a dozen times before. I would get the PCV valve tube and the Booster tube mixed up and wonder why they didn't fit correctly.

Some have a vacuum test port also. My 98 has one but the 2000 does not(which sucks,no pun intended)lol. I forget which side it was on. And it is kind of hidden behind/under fuel rail and wire harness.

 

I'm back from the garage. The test port that zman said already has a plug in it. The plug that i have left over is about the same size. The throttle body has the vacuum line hooked up.

The truck seems to run fine. It started right up and idles fine. This plug that i'm left with was in a plastic baggy named, "vacuum plug." I did the repair over a three day period after work and trying to figure out where this goes

 

Just took the air box off and messed around. I have remote start so I stood on the bumper and turned the truck on and everything ran fine then I would turn it off and it makes a whistle from the throttle body. Not the two blades, but the hole behind them. That is sucking in air. I dont remember taking anything off but is that normal?

 

That may be just the IAC on the back of the TB. Make sure the oring is not damaged and do you have the gasket installed that goes between the bottom of the air filter housing and the top of the TB? Check those things, but in all honesty I think that sound is normal when you shut it down.

It just has gas so to speak , like after eating a few taco's.
