Default O2 Sensor Removal

I have a 1998 Ram 1500 5.9. I tried to remove the upstream O2 sensor today. The socket when placed on the sensor was against the transmission housing so I couldnt get the breaker bar on it. I tired soaking it with pb blaster and a cresent wrench and the sensor is solid in the converter. I was thinking of cutting the sensor so I coudl get a normal socket and breaker bar on the sensor.
Thinking of heating it red to loosen it.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the advice. The rust under my truck is unbelieveable. I had to replace the transmission pan once and its rusting out again. Brake lines oil pan etc etc. Is this indicative for dodge?

Thanks again.

The rust is pretty bad on my truck also. Pretty disapointing for a 2001. My truck will be a bag of rust in less than 5 years.

Mine is a 98 and I had to do the brake lines, will need a new tranny pan soon and I'm in the process of changing my pre cat O2 sensor now. I've soaked it with AeroKroil, PB Blaster and CRC Freeze out so far and no luck. I even went so far as to buy that O2 socket which is useless for the Pre Cat no Damn Room!! I'm going to get a 22mm 6pt this week already cut the sensor....

Thank you very much!! I was just about to cut the sensor yesterday and figured at that point i had enough for the day. at the time it seemed drastic but you just reinforced it for me. I am also going to heat it as described above. that should do it. Thanks also for the 22mm my socket although it didnt do any good was a 7/8. it seemed to fit ok but like you said no room to get a wrench on it.

what about a good pair of vise grips clamped onto it, then some heat or a pipe for leverage, or some hammer whacks.

As a postscript to my O2 sensor removal for those who may need a suggestion, I did heat it cherry red and with the help of a pipe wrench was able to remove it. Bought the new sensor from the dealer, installed it and the truck is running fine again. My thanks to those who helped through their comments. This is a great site! wish I could find a similar site for Ford.

In line with the rust discussions above, as I was taking the truck off the ramps the brake line to the rear sprung a major leak! Its fixed now but whats next? Thanks for reading
