Default Recalibrate speedo/odo?

Hey all,

I am running 285's on my truck and Im sick of having to use my GPS for my MPH. I have the SCT, so I have no option of recalibrating with my tuner. I went to the local Dodge dealership, and they didnt know if they could recalibrate it or not. They said they know they can recal the newer Rams...

Any ideas?

changing the speedo gear is only valid for about? 96 or 97 and back. the later models with the digital odometer are all electronic.

you need to set the pinion factor in the pcm. your dealer could do this but the 285's are not in his approved list (225,245,265), and he needs to use the rev's-per-mile setting. your dealer is an idiot for not knowing this. superchips and hypertech also do this.

i don't know if superchips vin locks the unit on a speedo change or not. does anyone know ?

Saw your post so I thought I would give you some info on our product for your vehicle.
Note that the Kelsey-Hayes ABS controller is required for the unit to work, if you do not have it in your vehicle our calibrator will not work.
(Dodge used different ones during some years)

97 & older have speedo gear in the trans tailshaft to calibrate, 98 or newer is digital & gets signal from the tone ring in the diff.

Maybe try getting an advisor to ask one of the senior mechanics about it or one of the older guys in the parts department.
They tend to be more knowledgeable than the service advisors that in some cases know squat.

That or tell them you will call around to other dealers till you can find one that does have a clue & get any service work done there

I think Superchips made a tire-only recalculator, I'd call and see if it VIN locks. If not, you can set the tire size with the tire recalculator and then "stack" the SCT tune on top.

Not to de-rail this thread too far, but will changing the gears also have an affect on the speedo? So if I were to correct mine and then change the gears, would I have to recalibrate again?

Many vehicles require that, but for our Rams, no. The way our Dodges are set up, your speedo is not affected by a gear change.

What do you mean the speedo is not affected by a gear change?

If you calibrate your speedo to a gear and tire package and then change the gear ratio and/or the tire size, you will need to recalibrate your speedo. It sees a different final ratio.
