Default Gibson SS Header Install on a 95 Ram

I am looking at installing some Gibson SS shorties on my 95 Ram and have read where install is easy and hard. Those of you that have installed these header, if you would chime in on any problems or shortcuts that would be great. Also, I have the EGR valve. Tried to install some JBAs a little while back but couldn't get the EGR to line up.

Thanks, Jeff

The egr tubing swivels, and the clamp-style connectors to attach it to the y-pipe will move freely also. Make sure you tighten all of the bolts a small bit at a time, or else it won't seal (and I really mean it, only a couple turns at a time on each). You should also throw away the cheap white gasket and buy a metal one, which might say it is for the 1960's block, but it will work. It will probably take a few hours to do, and you will be VERY frustrated trying to do the driver's side, but I think it's worth it. I felt more power come from my shorties (pacesetter) than I felt from the 1.7 rr.

Got you on the tighting. The JBAs EGR connection was in the right area but was cocked so that I could only get 1 bolt in. I have some SCE copper gaskets to install.

Wanting to know how hard the bolts are to get to on Gibsons.

I have a set of Gibson stainless on my truck, some things that I ran across are, 1 you need a very thin wall box end wrench for bolt to tube clearance, I had to grind one down to fit, 2 the two inside bolts on each inside tube and the back inside 2 bolts are a PITA to do. As for the gaskets use the ones that come with the kit I put mine on 2.5 yrs ago and have never had a issue. As for special locking bolts that's your choice but again the ones with the kit work fine, Also wipe off your finger prints before you start it or they will burn in.

I don't have egr, but the biggest problem on my gibsons was the 7/16th's header bolts they sent. Too big a head to get a box end wrench on about 3 of the bolts. Hedman makes a 1 inch bolt with a 3/8ths head that you can get a box end wrench on I believ it was part number 09003 from Hedman.

Sears has a longer combo box wrench that has a 3/8ths and 7/16ths end that comes in handy. A couple of socket extensions and a universal joint for the collector bolts is nice to have as well.

Thanks guys, I have used ignition wrenches in the past but you cannot get any torgue on them to tighten. Gonna lookup the longer wrenches and look at grinding. There was a bolt on the JBA's I just couldn't get to also.

Hey squirrel, do you remember if the headman bolt's 12 point?

with the pacesetter's, you can get an open box wrench on the tough bolts, but only for about 40*, so it gets very frustrating. And two of mine backed out over time, so I got a ticking exhaust leak.
