When water gets into brake fluid (from condensation) it turns brown. It also makes the fluid more corrosive onto rubber parts. So the rubber lines get weak, and instead of holding their rigid shape, they expand as they weaken.

If your fluid has a amber tinge...like lager beer (still you can see through it) then it probably had too much water in it.

I just bled my system and put new fluid in about 3 weeks ago. Have been having brake problems...found out my rear shoes really needed to be replaced. So I had them replaced.

this might be a good time for a power steering fluid flush and brake system bleed.

Brakes are easy to bleed dry. Well, you don't want them to go completely dry. Actually you never want the master cylinder to get empty. Just have someone keep pumping the brakes while you have the left rear opened and some tubing around the bleed valve into a jug (put some fluid in there so no air will go back into the system). Then keep adding fluid to the cylinder as it goes down. Will probably need 2 big jugs of it.

That sucks. It always happens when your on a steep grade or need to make a panic stop. Mine broke about a month ago backing down a steep boat ramp. Luckily the front brakes still worked and my truck didn't end up in the lake.

brake lines are real simple....what i would do...instead of dropping the tank...is cut the line right before the tank, or whereever it looks good, and slide it throug to where it ends.... use ferrel unions to put the line back together....probably take less than an hour to do including the bleeding....

i did both rear lines in my dads old 96 ram longbed....never had to drop tank

And thats illegal to do. Break lines need to be a solid line to some pile of crap crimped back together. I have a friend who's line broke by his tank and he needed it fixed fast so the guy did that. Than he went to get his inspection done and failed because of that. It happen at two different shops.

I just blew a brake line last week while I was at college. Quick trip to the auto parts store to get the new line, fluid, and bender tool and I was back in action in about one hour.

Very simple to do. Don't pay a shop hundreds of bucks when it will cost you about $20 total for a new line, fluid, and the tools
