Ahhh focus guys....We are supposed to be talking about a ram....your jumping all over here with lawnmowers and chevys ... I would drop the tank...if things are that rusty chances are the hangers/line need replacing anyway right? Why not do it once the right way?

This stems from his commentary on another site about a certain oil filter that was a little too hard to take off the block.

I know the answer to that one, a screwdriver and a hammer .

LOL that was my next resort. Actually got the thing off using a strap wrench and a torque multiplier.

I had to resort to the screwdriver method a few months ago on my Dodge and was cussing up a storm. Later, at a local tool store, I found an awesome oil filter wrench that is cam driven with three long fingers that revolve around the cam to crush the filter. Insert a 3/8" ratchet into the tool to operate the cam, and the filter removes with ease.

This is what I've been using for years, and I've never had a problem gettin them off with it

I like it over the large pliers as it can fit in a cramped space and there is more throw with the ratchet. I almost bought a set of pliers but was concerned about room to work with them since I'm using that filter wrench on more than one vehicle.

I'm going to have to look around for that tool close to me VW. Hell, if I can't find it, it's not like Norman is that far of a drive anyways.

Would be nice to have considering some of the other filters I have to change around here. Them 454's can be a bitch.
