Reading that title, many of you are wondering, "well Purpl your truck is big, and very ugly - look at the grille yuk, You also seem to really like NAPA, so just how broken is your truck?


I roll up to a stop sign about to turn down the street to my mom's house when I hit the throttle and it sputtered for a few seconds and died. Started it up again and the same thing happened. So I did what any Dodge owner would do: Blame the Chevy. No, the S-10 doesnt have the ***** to do that, so I got out and parallel-parked it, and did a damn good job of it. I thought to myself how could this happen? 5 minutes ago I was runnin with a 7.3 Powerstroke, and now I'm sputtering at 300 RPMs. Was it that ugly ***** I passed and now Purpl was trying to throw up? Or was it that really hard stop I made a mile back?

I had my dad try to start up the truck while I listened to any unusual noises. Nothing, and there was no rods sticking out the side of the block, oil pressure was good, there was gas in the tank, and I had the right key. Why would this Rambunctious Ram start running like crap all the sudden? hen my dad just said "is it getting fuel?" That sparked the idea. I got under the truck and told him to turn the truck to "on" a few times. I was looking for the normal whine that comes from the fuel pump when you turn it on. Nothing.

So I'm guessing that my fuel pump is out and I am really wondering why. I took a really hard stop right before this happened. I'm thinking that the force of the stop caused the fuel pump housing to crack, and at the stop sign it just broke. That or the little green ball in the filler neck came out and bitch slapped the pump when I stopped. Either way I am removing the bed and tank as soon as I figure a way to get the damn thing home. Probably gonna get the Carter fuel pump from Rock Auto for 212 dollars, but lets not jump to conclusions.

BTW Chris and aim, I am doing it right.

 

i just replaced a fuel pump in my buddies 97, no need to pull the bed really. the tank drops from below just as easily with out.

i would suggest goggles/glasses there is a lot of crap that fall in your face when dropping a tank.

only took about an hr. and half to do the job.

 

I know there is no need, but I prefer taking the top off before I f-up the bottom.

 

Just drive the Cub to it, hook up a chain and drag it home.

Well, I tore it apart to figure out an electrical problem - no power at all. A new ignition switch halfway fixes it. Now I think that it is the PTO switch. Oh, and I'm re-building the steering box.

Maybe it was time that I graduated to John Deere or Gravely....Or Both.

 

It might be a ground issue or the starter coil thingy.
My MTD didn't want to start one day and it was from rust under the negative cable on the frame. Another time it was the ignition switch. This time (a few days ago) it's from a combo of a dead battery and a clogged carburetor not letting the gas through.

 

I saw "clogged carburetor", and I'm like WTF?
Then I remembered you have a Camaro, then it made sense.

 

I'm talking about a lawnmower (MTD).
