gas tank removal
ok, heres the problem. Gas is leaking from where the cab meets the box on the driver side. Its wierd is hell, my fuel pump is dry, and all the lines are basicly behing the tank. So I guess im gonna rip off the tank to see where the heck the gas is leaking from, has anyone removed there tanks. I have a 1994 1500 2wd v6 3.9l magnum, 8 foot box. Help would be great, thx
Yeah, because the fuel lines are on the top of the tank. It would be a lot harder to access the fuel lines if you just left the bed on and took the gas tank out.
2 nuts and two fittings are all that hold the tank on.30 minutes tops.the quick connects can be dicks to get off but easier than pulling the bed.you will probably need new tank straps[stevewhitedodge.com $60 shipped}
dopping the tank is simple...and my buddy just had a gas lin break bettwen tank and frame...couple ferrel unions and a brake line later, its all done.....you can change the lines without dropping the tank......
but tank removal is easy....two nuts that hold the straps on, disconnect the gear clamps holding the filler neck to tank, and lower the tank a little so you can get the fuel lines on top to disconnect....BE SURE to drain the system of fuel, to do this, take out your fuel pump relay, and crank the truck until it cannot start, then you wont have pressure in the lines....rest is self explanitory...pretty simle job, IMO removing the bed would be tougher.....

Just replace the 'bad' part. I think at the tank end, you would need to 'special' connector..... If the line looks really sad, might have to do that anyway. You might be able to get away with just using compression fittings....... but, I really don't recommend them. Getting a union, some flare nuts, and a flaring tool is the "Right"™ way to do it.
