When putting on my bodylift yesterday, I decided to check the u joints while I was under there. The truck was in neutral with the wheels blocked and I noticed that either the tailshaft had play in it and the front u joint did. I'm not sure if the tail shaft is supposed to have a little play, but I know that the u joint isn't. The front u joint looks original. This could be where my vibration is coming from that shakes the truck at 45 mph.

 

when the trans is in park, there is some rotational play in the drive shaft.
there is a smidgen of play in the splines of the tailshaft. not much.

if in doubt, get a good grip on the 2 halves of the u-joint using 2 big pliers and rotate one side back and forth against the other one. there should be no play at all in the joint. if there is, its bad.

 

mine has no play what so ever, not able to get any rotational play....so could that be a bad thing?

 

Yea ok! LOL Come on now, give us a break.

 

LOL must be rusted up from getting water in the trans.
