Default Purchasing a Ram

I have always liked the looks of Rams, but always had Jeeps. I am big on offroading, and my daily drivers have been the weekend warriors. Well, My Jeep is no longer street legal and will need to be towed. I will probably tow 2 weekends a month on average. The truck will be my daily driver, but I have a company vehicle so it wont get used much. That means gas mileage is not an issue. My question is, should I just opt for a 1500 or go with a 2500? 5.9 or Cummins? Im really new to to Dodge trucks, so I hope you guys can help. Thanks, Justin.

if your towing a jeep or something heavy i would go with the 2500 or even a 3500. and a diesel. there alot better for towing, but it all depends on what you do with it and where you live. ( warm, cold, hills, flat. ex...)

Im not a fan of desiels. Im a gas man myself. I hate the smell and the racket they make. Here in germany the desiel cars run as quite as gas. The desiel fuel is cheaper here so alot more people buy them. Reg gas runs about 1.10 euro a liter. Translated into USD and again into gallons your looking at $5.20. Yes I said over 5 bucks a gallon. They tax the hell out of gas for them here. I buy my gas from base at $2.50 a gallon and am glad to get it. Can't wait to return to america. Even with high prices its still cheaper. Anyhow you have to buy what you think you can use. Also if you narrow it down to two trucks look for the better value. God knows a desiel should outlast a gas engine if the last owner did the maint.
good luck

If you plan on using the vehicle for towing or heavy duity work I suggest you highly you avoid any dodge products, for the tranny that may fail you during your towing or work.

Couple of my buddies tow with theirs 2nd gen 2500's and 3500's both are manual. They never had problems with them. One is gas and the other deisel. I was going to ask if I should be afraid of the auto.

the only way the V10 is going to have any type of ***** is in the viper package. other than that I wouldnt.

my Cummins just turned 18k this weekend and I have enjoyed every mile. I havent towed much with it, but what I have done most of the time I could have swore nothing was behind me. only time I knew something was back there was when I peeked into the rear view mirror.

When it comes to fuel mileage. I have the man and 4.10's. If I stick the speedo at 70 I'll keep the mileage to around 18. the hemi, 4.7, or the V10 cant do that. If you get a Diesel, check to see if it is either the 47RE or the 48RE. both trannies are good and unless you bomb the engine they will handle anything you put behind the truck.

having my cummins has almost converted my over to a full diesel man. my toyota is still a gas burner, but I'm considering finding a Cummins 4BT, bomb it and toss it it under the hood[8D]

The V-10 outside gets 10 mpg, empty or loaded, it dont matter.

oh, its an extended cab, long box, with an auto tranny. Hope that helps
