What octane fuel you guys using?
We all know the 5.2 and 5.9 have some spark knock but boy I was surprised by how much mine did it. I don't seem to be burning any oil so you can eliminate that possibility. It doesn't do it hardly at all when running around daily driving but pulling my trailer my truck does particularly when loaded down with 5000 lbs or more. Started running 89 octane in it just to see and it went away. Recently new plugs and all too. Only thing I can draw a conclusion to is the gas around here is real crappy. How many of you have had similar problems?
I actually have stickers that look factory on the insturment cluster as well as the inside of the gas door that both say minimum 92 Octane. Boy does it run like crap if I put a lower grade in it. I should add that my owners manual says 87 Octane, but the stickers contradict that so the the engine itself !!!

I run 87 all the time because I'm cheap. It seems to run fine to me. Still gets decent gas mileage for what it is. I might fill up with the expensive stuff sometime just to see if it makes a diff. but the book says to run 87 and I haven't seen anyplace to says otherwise.

Ahahaah Im cheap too when its over 2.50 a gallon where I live.
I dumped some good stuff in it and guess what. it still went the same distance as the cheap crap.. So since there is no knocking Ill stick with 87...
i use almost exclusively Amoco Silver (89 octane mid grade) mine has knocked from new on 87, and when i tried premium to stop the knocking, it just knocked worse. It seems content with mid-grade, and i do notice a difference with Amoco/BP over other brands, especially the ethanol ones, like racetrac. I also run a bottle of injector cleaner at every oil change.
