upgraded ignition
I have a 99 Ram 1500 w/5.9l and am upgrading the ignition (coil, cap, wires, plugs). Is there particular plug i should go with when doing this or should i just stay with a stock plug for dependability?
Other upgrades in progress are: CAI, underdrive pulleys, headers, and cat-back exhaust

I use NGK V-Power and they seem to run really well.

You can gap some NGK plugs .04. THat is what most guys do with a performance coil.
Buit you will not see a difference in power with a coil, plugs and wires. Unless you get pulstar plugs (9 dollars each) and magnecor wires (151 per set).
I have a FULL msd ignition, and I didn't notice difference.

Stronger coil I go .005 over stock, ign box & coil .010 over.
Always gap every plug, every time!
With coil & wires didnt really notice a difference.
Ignition box stronger, faster starts, I have a digital box (MSD Dig6)
Analogue boxes arent that great tbh plus it was nice having extra built in limiters.(2stg)
As far as plugs go, we all have our own ideas of what works & what doesnt.
Personally, Ive tried Champion, NGK, Bosch plats & currently have colder Autolite 3923s
The Champions noticed slight loss
Bosch plats (single post/dual-quad avoid) slight gain. Ran a 13.99 et w/bone stock 5.9/every bolt on/NA with them installed.
NGK loss
Autolite 3923s had so many other changes, unknown results but one range colder needed with extensive mods & especially with boost.
Most important thing about plugs beside gapping them is indexing the gap opening so it points up towards the valves.
By pointing the gap opening towards the valves you will get a more complete burn.
That can lead to better mpg & up to 2-3% more hp.
When you have lots of mods, that 2-3% can make a very noticeable difference
When I install plugs I wrap my plug socket with masking tape closest to the ratchet.
I mark the tape where the plug gap opening is pointing.
I install the plug & if the gap(mark on tape) is pointing upwards its good.
If it points sideways or down towards the oil pan I remove it & try another plug till I get one that lines up better then move on.
Sometimes may take pulling a plug out a few times or moving some around more than once.
If you ever have your heads off, ALWAYS put in fresh plugs & index them so they are nuts on.

Unless Accel has changed things very recently the advertised greater spark energy is in the form of a longer spark duration, while remaining at the same voltage as the stock coil, so opening the gap would be pointless.
