Default low gas mileage

I just recently picked up an 01 1500 slt laramie. After driving it it seems like it's a bit sluggish on the passing gear unless you really lay into it. Is this normal for these trucks? Also I was flipping through the readouts on the overhead thing and it showed 11.5mpg. That seems really low for what I thought this truck would have. I was figuring it would at least be 15mpg. Are these all normal?

The overhead is a waste of time. Do an actual miles and gallons used estimate. As far as sluggish in OD goes, yes, it is normal. Why? because it's a Dodge Ram and it has 3:55 gears in it and probably a blown plenum gasket. Do a search here for "plenum" and you"ll find everything you need to know about that subject.

Might be worth it doing a search for "Death Flash" too, as i am about 90% sure that all 2001 ram's come from the factory with it. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...ath-flash.html

As for the mpg, 11.5 is a little above average for these trucks, in my opinion. With my 98 5.9l with 3.55 gears and 265/75/16 tires, I average about 10 mpg. Sometimes down to 9.5, sometimes up to 10.9. My friends and family always make fun of me for driving like an old lady, which should tell you that I'm not a leadfoot at all.

It seems to me like you have a normal 2001 dodge ram, just in my opinion.

Yea I've been looking around on here and have come across both of those issues. I haven't had a chance to actually get up under the hood and look for the signs yet. If I do, I'm guessing my first mod will be to fix that plenum issue and a tuner to get rid of the correction tune.

I wish you good luck!

And just a word of advice, it might be useful to put some information in your signature in order to help us help you in the future. It makes it alot easier for people to know the specifics of your vehicle, and direct their responses towards them. I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, just trying to make it easier on you in the future.
For example: I have listed the year, model, engine type, and that it is 4 wheel drive, ect. and also included a small picture.

Your "plenum" is blown too then. My 2500 with 4:10's and 265's get's 13. Of course I'm not going by the overhead.

I just joined the other day, haven't had much time to go through and get all that mess straight yet. Once I get the truck washed up and get some good pics of it and all, I'll have a sig pic and all that good stuff

I can also make sigs for people if they want something other than just a picture of it.

Idk if ya'll can see the album because of privacy settings, but here's some examples if ya'll wanted something a little more custom for yours...http://s41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...ature%20Stuff/

I'm usually on moddedmustangs a lot (site mod there), which is where a lot of them came from.

That and the fact you are another DF member that owns a stang is great! Now don't ignore my post and do a search for "plenum". It would also be nice to know if the mpg's you stated are city or highway!
