Default Hs 1.7 rr

I just got done installing my harland sharp 1.7 roller rockers today. Part # s70037. I have not had a chance to drive it yet, will do tomorrow morning. I fired it up before in the driveway and it ran a little rough at first for about 20-30 seconds than it smoothed out. My truck is a little bit louder with a different sound to it and it has a slight viabration through out the truck. Almost like i put in a big cam or something. Is this normal? do any of you guys have this? I'm pretty mechanicly inclined and i am 99.9% sure i did everything right. I soaked them overnight in break-in oil. Then doubble checked everything from the push rods to make sure they are in thier proper place with a mirror, and even my torque specs. I guess i'm just a little nervous cause the truck is a little bit different now. The least thing i need is for the top end to explode going down the road.

Assuming you removed the negative battery cable prior to doing the job, give the PCM a little time to relearn.

I only let it run for about 2 minutes and yes i did remove the negative battery cable. I am going to take it out on the road in a little bit and see how she does. Did you leave the factory push rod guides in with the harland sharps, or did you remove them with the factory rocker arms? I read in the forums that your supposed to remove them because the new rockers have a better design or something.

take the push rod guides out. The truck will run a little different.. I mean you DID change the rocker arms to a different ratio.. so it only makes sence that it will have a little more lope at idle... you'll like them.. you might re-set your pcm again to be sure then give it about 200 miles to learn the new hardware

Yes i did remove the guide plates, just wanted to make sure that i was supposed to. I took it out for a test run before and it runs kind of rough going down the road not very smooth. I wondering if my pcm has to take time and learn, and then it will smooth itself out. I know i installed them correctly. Going to take another spin out now and see.

I'd double check that the plug wires are making a firm connection with the plugs and cap.

Put the guide plates back in. Taking them out screws up the geometry. You can remove them but need to either shime the mount or different push rods to make up the difference in height(thickness of guide plate). Get the GP back in,chase/clean out the threads, torque them down to 25 ft-lbs with alittle blue loctite. 21lbs(oem spec) doesnt seem to work well with some motors as it gives a loud valvetrain(ticking).

edit....follow the firing order starting with #1tdc then turn the crank every 90deg and torque down the corresponding rockers

I don't think you need the guide plates... these rockers are pedistal mount which makes up the difference. The directions said to remove them and torque to 21lbs. I've had mine in for about 2 years and have no problems

The guideplates need to be removed, don't reinstall them!

glad yours have "worked" but unless the mounts are tall which they arent then your screwing up the valvetrain geometry. HS are designed to factory specs and changing installed height(removing GP) changes geometry.
