Default Master Cylinder

Okay, so I took my truck to the shop that did my clutch, and 'new hydraulics' 4 months ago. They say that the hydraulics they replaced was just the slave cylinder and hose to the master, that the pre-bled assembly from Dodge is just the slave and hose, not the master, and that now my master cylinder is bad. It just seems weird to me. Plus, they will give me $100 off, and still want to charge $280 for parts and labor.

So, anyone that bought the system from Dodge, did you have the option of just the slave and hose?

I called up the parts department at a local dealership, and they said the only way they sell it is the whole assembly. So, I think this shop is full of ****.

Anyway, how can you tell if the master cylinder is the problem, and not something else?

can you tell by looking at the master cylinder whether its new or not ? any dodge marks, or non dodge markings, or is it cleaner than it used to be ? do you have receipt from 4 months ago? does it say anything?

rockauto lists the master, slave, lines, etc as a set for $125-200,
or the master separately for $40-60

also, its typical of all shops to wiggle out of any warranty work. usually whatever is currently wrong is always something other than what was previously fixed. whether it really is or not.

i don't know how to test the master unless you can feel it collapsing to the floor while depressed (like a brake master when sitting at red light).

$280 sounds a little high for a master cylinder replacement.
you can get one from rockauto and be done with it.

380.00 (the REAL price they want to charge) Is WAY out of line. The 100 bucks off they are 'offering' you, is a joke. They inflate the price of the repair horribly, then offer you money off, so it 'looks' like a good deal, but, in reality, they are bending you over...... without the courtesy of a reach-around.

Check your receipt, see what they put on there, verify that it WAS only the line, and slave. They ARE available separately. (maybe not from the dealer though..... did they charge you for real dodge parts, and then put on something cheap for Autozone?)
