cleaning intake manifold

Lightbulb cleaning intake manifold

whats the best way to clean the old gasket and gunk off the intake manifold and engine block? seems really cooked on there. can i use a wire brush? or will that ruin the surface? thanks!!

Putty knife and razor blades in a holder. Then use a sanding block with fine sandpaper. Clean both surfaces with denatured alcohol,then procede with installation.

yes, what zman said, I just did this. I used a less than new razor blade to avoid gouging. I also had a plastic cup to tap the gunk off of the razor so it wouldn't get into the lifter valley. took some time but cleaned up real nice. everything sealed up great.

Also,stuff rags or paper towels in all the ports. And use a vacuum instead of compressed air to clean up debris.

You can stuff the ports with shop towels and use either TB cleaner or brake parts cleaner. Both work magic with gunk and evapotate quite quickly - all the gunk will be left within the towels.

I am sure it will also unglue the old gasket parts.

scotch-brite pad works good too.

Anyone know where to get those sweet little 3m bristle pads? I have a die grinder and would much prefer that to scraping away.
